Ep 017 Isle of Dogs

TJPodcast Square Isle of Dogs.png

The Hundred Acre Wood is opening up to our world. Watch the brand-new teaser trailer for Disney's Christopher Robin. Coming soon to theatres Disney's "Christopher Robin" is directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by Alex Ross Perry and Allison Schroeder and a story by Perry based on characters created by A.A.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is in UK cinemas now Check out the film's official page - http://bit.ly/2tm0cg1 Directed by Simon Curtis Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie and Kelly Macdonald Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodbyeChristopherRobinFilm/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/GCRFilm Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodbye_christopher_robin/ Website: goodbyechristopherrobin.co.uk GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children's author A.

Very close on the heels of the 2017 Fox Searchlight film, Goodbye Christopher Robin and the uber successful Paddington 2 (hey, we did a podcast on that one too) here's another world-renowned, anthropomorphized bear movie.

The teaser art even nods to a bear in a hat.

Learn More About The DPG: https://www.dinosaurprotectiongroup.com/ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom In Theaters June 22, 2018 https://www.jurassicworld.com It's been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

Since TJP takes a look at marketing we wanted to explore a viral ad campaign that bridges media like this faux PSA that probably won't be in the movie (similar to the Deadpool sequence from the Meet Cable Trailer) to other elements such as:

  • fully functioning website
  • Cool logo with all social platforms
  • Some of the glossiest "white papers" in a reports section on their site
  • A hashtag #wecansavethem and a fake future march on Capitol Hill
Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 12.09.34 PM.png

...wait, what? Ted calls foul on the use of the platforms for fake moral outrage.

ISLE OF DOGS opens in theaters March 23, 2018. ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots.

Last, but clearly the most evocative, Isle of Dogs which Jim and Ted discuss how the English language sounds like dogs barking.

Ep 016 Ready Player One

TJPodcast Ready Player One.png

This week Jim & Ted try to escape from the real world a bit with three films that discuss the limits of human thought.

Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury's classic novel. In a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and "firemen" burn books, Jordan plays Guy Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer and with his "mentor", played by Shannon. Premieres Spring 2018 on HBO.

First up an HBO remake of the Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel, Fahrenheit 451. The two most popular Michaels are pitted against each other in this dystopian allegory about burning books. This is not the first film adaptation (in 1966 Truffaut adapted this) but Jim and Ted are excited to see HBO's take on this subject.

Watch the teaser trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. See the film in theatres this Thanksgiving. "Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2" leaves Litwak's video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet-which may or may not survive Ralph's wrecking.

On the lighter side Ralph Breaks the Internet and Ted challenges Disney's colon use and Jim and Ted are hopeful that Disney can get this right after the Emoji Movie got it so wrong.

Ted's son tries to glean the definition of "Gringo" strictly from the movie posters he sees around Burbank.

Bryce, 8 years old, saw this Joel Edgerton poster and surmised that Gringo had something to do with money.

Ted pointed out that the other posters do not have money so that context is misleading. Luckily, we have more than movie posters to teach our children the meanings of words in the English language (and, in this case, Spanish).

http://readyplayeronemovie.com http://facebook.com/readyplayerone http://twitter.com/readyplayerone http://instagram.com/readyplayerone -- From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure "Ready Player One," based on Ernest Cline's bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse.

To round out the Dystopian Episode another novel, this time Steven Spielberg tackles Ernest Cline's 2011 Ready Player One. Jim and Ted talk about how far we are from the OASIS and Ted compares the search for Halliday's Easter Egg to mining for Bitcoin in the future. If you want an experience closer to the VR in Ready Player One the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire is open in Anahiem and London.

A galaxy far, far away needs your help. In teams of four, be transported with family and friends in a brand new hyper-reality experience from Lucasfilm, ILMxLAB and The VOID. Under the orders of the budding rebellion, your team will travel to the molten planet of Mustafar.

Ep 015 The Solo Cup Final for Best Trailer

TJPodcast Shape of Water 2.jpg

This week we have a special poster. This is an image based on a Guillermo del Toro sketch and it evokes the passion of Gustav Klimt's The Kiss. As an auteur, Guillermo had control of every aspect of creation.

TJP has our Solo Cup, Hockey has the Stanley Cup and Sweden has the Guldbaggen.

Now Playing From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER - an other-worldly fable, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation.

What an amazing trailer! Here is a short that Ted was thinking about at the beginning of The Shape of Water.

dir. Thomas Lien

Get Out - In Theaters This February http://www.getoutfilm.com In Universal Pictures' Get Out, a speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele, when a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend's family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.

The nuanced nature of racial tropes was deftly handled by Peele in Get Out but Jim and Ted can't help but think back to the Eddie Murphy skit from Delierious. Since we only have the trailer Jim thinks these are tropes but having seen the movie Ted sees these characters as archetypes.

Watch the official trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's #PhantomThread, starring Daniel Day-Lewis. In select theaters this Christmas. Set in the glamour of 1950's post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock.

Ted tries valiantly to defend one of his favorite auteurs but there is little to glean from this trailer. Maybe the scenes in the feature cannot translate into the trailer format but we do not have the luxury of time for a long-drawn out interplay in our two-minute piece of art/commerce.
